Shirley's Story
I love bridge, I love cribbage and I love to go on long walks—in fact, I always made sure I got in a couple miles of walking every day. Unfortunately, I started to feel some discomfort when I’d go on my walks, discomfort that gradually grew into pain.
Realizing the longer I ignored the pain, the more damage I could be doing to myself, I went to a place I knew I could trust,
Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Carmen Crofoot of
Franklin Health Orthopaedics was wonderful—

she explained to me that I had thinning bones and joint deterioration, and that I needed a total hip replacement. Even though I had been a surgical technologist for 24 years, I was still nervous about the
surgery. Fortunately my friend, and former colleague, Gloria Hargraves, was there the day of the
surgery to ease my anxiety.
Before the
surgery, I could barely cross my legs. Just a couple of months after it, I was able to walk around the Farmington and Fryeburg fairs pain-free. My whole experience at
FMH, from diagnosis through the recovery process, was excellent. I could not have asked for better care.
