The Rush Family's Story

Rush Family
My husband, Ben, and I had one wonderful son, Noah, and were thrilled to find out we would be having another. As avid skiers, we envisioned the four of us enjoying the slopes at Sugarloaf as a family. When it was time for the birth of our second child, we were both excited as we checked into Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Family Birthing Center. The nurses helped me get settled into my room and hooked me up to several monitors so everything was ready for the delivery. As my labor progressed, though, the excitement Ben and I felt was soon replaced with fear. The monitors indicated that with every contraction I had, our baby’s heart stopped beating.

Franklin Health Women’s Care’s Dr. Connie Adler was contacted immediately to perform an emergency cesarean section. I was given medication to stop the contractions and the medical team rushed me down the hall for surgery. Dr. Adler soon discovered the umbilical cord had been wrapped around our baby’s neck three times. Thanks to early detection of the problem, and Dr. Adler and her team’s expertise, my husband and I were able to welcome our second son, Nick, to our family that day.

The entire staff of FMH’s Family Birthing Center was fantastic—the doctors, the nurses and everyone else who cared for us during our stay. Someone was always nearby to make sure all our needs were being met. If it weren’t for Franklin Memorial having the technology to detect the problem’s we were having during labor, and the doctors and staff with the expertise to quickly fix it, I hate to think how things might have turned out that day. Now, we are proud to report our healthy, vibrant 3-year-old son, Nick, is looking forward to having his first season’s ski pass and enjoying the slopes with his big brother, mom and dad, and to teaching his new baby sister, Kailee, how to ski too.
