Paul Mosher’s Story

I had lived with shoulder pain, off and on, for more than 20 years. I’d had a few steroid injections that helped for a time, but the pain kept coming back and getting worse. My shoulder ached and I couldn’t sleep at night. I finally injured my shoulder and could no longer move my arm at all. Sure, I had considered a joint replacement before, but now I knew it was time.
I stayed in the hospital for two nights and everyone was great there, the nurses and others. That operation was so successful. I went through physical therapy for three months and when I had a check-up in June with Dr. Cummings I asked her how much longer I had to go through therapy. She responded by saying as soon as you can reach over and touch the other side of your head with your arm. “Like this?” I demonstrated. She was astonished that so soon after the operation I could already do this and with absolutely no pain. One month later, I had a full range of motion back in that shoulder.
I still find it amazing that by putting in an artificial joint, the surgical team from Franklin Health Orthopaedics and Franklin Memorial Hospital has made my useless arm work like new. I can lift with it—in fact, this arm is now stronger than my other one.
I am so appreciative. One day I asked my daughter-in-law what I could do to thank Dr. Cummings and her staff. She’s good with the computer and I was thinking she could make a personalized thank you card. But she had a better idea; make a video. So we went out next to my woodpile and I started chopping away while she was shooting the camera.
We gave the video to Dr. Cummings and I have been told that she was quite touched by it.
