Food/Water Supplies
* Ready to eat canned meats or fish, fuits, vegetables and soups
* Protein and/or fruit bars
* Dry cereal and granola
* Peanut butter and/or nuts
* Dried fruit
* Crackers
* Canned juices
* Bottled water (refresh/replace every 6 months) (ideally for 1 gallon per person per day)
* Cans and/or jars of baby food or formula
* Pet food
Health Supplies
* Soap
* Hand wipes (Baby Wipes)
* Disinfecting Hand Gel
* Fever/pain medicines (Tylenol, Motrin)
* Thermometer
* Anti-diarrheal medicines
* Fluids with electrolytes (such as Gatorade)
* Vitamins
* Tissues
Equipment
* Two Flashlights (and extra batteries)
* Portable radio
* Garbage bags
* Small Tool Kit
* Manual can opener
Create a Disaster "Kit"
* Able to grab and go (e.g., in a duffel bag)
* Include any special needs of family members (eg, formula, glasses)
* Change of clothes for each family member (including shoes)
* First Aid supplies
* Toiletries (samples or small purchased items work best)
* Blanket(s) for each family member
* Flashlight (with extra batteries) or a crank flashlight
* Matches
* Cash (and credit cards)
* Copies of critical documents (birth/marriage certificates, passports, licenses)
Have A Plan (that everyone knows)
* Dcoument your possessions (pictures, video, lists)
* Establish an out of town contact (with current home, work, cell, pager, email)
* Establish two predetermined meeting places: one near the home (for fire), one outside the neighborhood (for more widespread disasters)
* Put copies of essential documents with another family member or in a safe deposit box (birth/marriage certificates, powers of attorney, beneficiary designations, financial account summaries, will)
* Know child care options, school emergency plans, school child release authorization rules
* Plan for pets
* Keep your plan current
