"Praises" for our NorthStar Crews...
Here are some nice notes from our clients and others...
- 3/3/10. Shelby Rousseau, Carl Blondell, Steve H. Grant "I just was so completely impressed with the care, attention to detail and speed of entire process, I could not pass up the opportunity to let you know how very thankful I am; and the general population who comes in contact with you should be. Starting with the Saddleback Ski Patrol Team,...Inside the ski patrol center, there must have been 5 to 6 people who followed all the emergency procedures I've ever learned to perfection... Shelby ... recommended taking him to Franklin Memorial just to be safe, and I am glad she did as I am not one who normally rushes to the doctor and was almost not going to until she helped me to consider my son’s appearance, the logistics of weather, distance and timing. Every patrol member I came in contact with was completely courteous, seemed genuinely concerned for my son’s comfort and my sanity as well... To the ambulance driver, Steve Grant, Sr., and paramedic, Carl Blondell, ... Thank you for being on call Saturday night. You were both also very courteous and very good about explaining the process at the time and going forward. Your communication was also invaluable to a concerned mom. (My apologies for possibly passing along my needle phobia to my son)... I know that to all of you these are you jobs, you chose them and enjoy what you do, it shows, but to me, and the patients who arrive like we do, you make a world of difference in just how you choose to respond to our many questions, blank stares and possibly silly requests. ... please know how much you are appreciated. With my deepest sincerity" Excerpted from a long letter from patient's mom
- 2/23/10. Beth Scott "The members of the Farmington Police Department and myself would like to take this opportunity to thank [Beth] for teaching our latest CPR re-certification class here at the department. ...we didn't want to miss the opportunity to show our gratitude. ... [Beth's] work is a credit to the professionalism of NorthStar Ambulance Service." Letter from Chief Caton
- 2/17/10. Jeremy Manzer, Harold Schaetzle "[We] want to thank you for the excellent care and ride. Jeremy, you had gentle hands and watched him through the long ride down the mountain (rt 27). Thank you Deeply. Harold, thanks for keeping me informed of the great doctors and staff we were going to and calming my nerves. Great Job Men! Thank you." [And over Jeremy and Harold's names on the enclosed Comment Card she wrote:] "Awesome, Thanks" Card from patient and patient's wife
- 2/15/10. Mike Senecal "Thank you very much... for not really getting injured in our first-aid practical!!!” Note from Barry London's high school Maine Guide class (Mike was the patient!)
- 2/15/10. Al Sleight "Good Morning, Just wanted to drop a note to say that Mr. Al Sleight has been doing a fantastic job on our shift. Al continues to go above and beyond. Al's enthusiasm shows through frequently, and especially on the last shift when he began the battery regimen. Al also shines through when we wake in the morning, as he usually has the ambulances washed and cleaned. Al is an early riser. So in closing, I would just like to say a Thank-you to Al.” Note from a co-worker
- 2/15/10. [Unknown crew] "...The EMTs of NorthStar, who took care of a loved one at four in the morning in pouring rain. I doubt they are paid what they deserve. Thank you for your Emergency Services.” Anonymous comment on Avatar Survey
- 2/9/10. All NorthStar Crews (and Peter Wade, Larry Thornton, Beth Scott, Christie Pinkham, Mike Senecal on site that day) "...Finally thank you to all who responded: fire fighters, the Farmington Police Department, NorthStar EMS, and for all you do to protect our families and our residents. I am proud to live in this community where so many dedicated professional people are willing to risk their lives to protect us.” From letter to the Franklin Journal Editor from Rebecca Ryder, President/CEO, FCHN
- 2/5/10. Dennis Kerrigan, Erika Bohlman "It is my sincerest wish to extend my warmest “Thank you” to two members of your staff. [In January 2010] I needed the services of an Ambulance since I was in severe distress. I had two absolutely wonderful Emergency Technicians show up. One of them was Dennis Kerrigan, the other Erika Bohlman. I couldn’t have asked for better care. First of all they were kind enough to drive me all the way to CMMC in Lewiston. The ride down there was made as comfortable as possible for me. Dennis got in touch with the Emergency Room so he could give me some very needed pain medication. Erika drove so carefully, it didn’t scare me at all and by being so careful, she didn’t contribute to my pain level of what I called at least a 12. When we got to the ER at CMMC, Dennis and Erika secured me enough to get out of the Ambulance. At some other time it took 4 grown Men to lift me out. But not these 2, they are obviously a great team and I felt safe the entire time. The devotion to their job didn’t stop at the Nurses Desk at the ER. Before leaving the Hospital, they both came to see me to say “Good Bye” and mostly “Good Luck”. God Bless Both of them! I ended up having Emergency Surgery and that night by 11pm I found myself in my own Hospital room surrounded by all of my children. I was told later that I most likely wouldn’t have survived the weekend had I not come to CMMC when I did. Thank you again for all the help I received from these absolutely wonderful Human Beings, my Heroes.” Letter from patient
- 1/27/10. Peter Wade, Gabe Gunning "Just a note to thank all who gave such caring aid to my wife [ ] on the morning of her death.” Note from family
- 1/17/10. [Many NorthStar Crews] "... His family wishes to thank... the great teams of NorthStar ambulance...” Excerpted from published obituary for Paul Utans (1932-2010)
- 1/7/10. Carol Pillsbury, Sam Davis "Thank you for showing the girls the ambulance and explaining the different things in it. They loved the experience. - 12/31/09. [Unknown Crew] "It was just wonderful. I felt very well cared for by NorthSar and by Farmington (sic) Memorial Hospital. Thank you!” Anonymous Avatar response
- 12/14/09. Carol Pillsbury, Sam Davis "Dear Carol and Sam, Thank you for coming to Cushing School to teach us about your job. We liked it when you strapped Mrs. Gagnon onto the board. We learned that that is one way you help people. We liked it when you showed us how the monitor worked on Tricia. We are glad that you save lives. Keep up the good work. Your friends,” Signed by the entire 1st grade class!
- 12/3/09. Gavin Smith, Steve Smith "First of all, thank you for NorthStar EMS! I had the pleasure (if you could call it that at the time) of having them respond to my call at four in the morning when my wife had 10/10 chest pain, followed by a fainting spell, resulting in her hitting her head on the bathroom sink on the way down. The EMTs had their hands full with this interesting list of complaints, but they handled the situation in a calm and professional manner, even though it appeared that they had just been roused from their sleep. Interestingly enough, not a thing was wrong with my wife, the paramedic actually stared at the EKG for a few moments and said it was beautiful, but having health care professionals of that caliber there to evaluate the situation and take her to the ER was a great experience. ... be sure to let the crew know that I owe them my gratitude. I was under the impression that most EMT's were little more than ambulance drivers who took blood pressure, but the professionalism of the crew broke that little stereotype.” Note from patient's husband
- 11/10/09. Jane Thorndike, Nathan Delavan "To let you know my husband passed away Sunday. Please thank Jane and Nathan for their gentleness and care to bring [my husband] "home" as this was where he wanted to be - not in the hospital. The scent of that day will long outlast the vessel he was conveyed in. Yes, ea. day has its own senses. Jane and Nathan are the comforting but capable spices that linger. Bless them.” Note from patient's wife
- 11/4/09. Carl Blondell, Peggy Betts " 'Thumbs Up' to...Carl and Peg for their speedy, courteous and very professional care of my visiting sister who had a serious brain injury. We are fortunate to have such caring people in our remote area. May God bless you and keep you safe on the job. ” Thumbs Up in the Rangeley Highlander
- 10/16/09. Carl Blondell, Harold Schaetzle " 'Thumbs Up' to Carl Blondell and Harold Schaetzle for saving my life on September 2009. God bless both of you for a job well done. Thank you. ” Thumbs Up in the Rangeley Highlander
- 9/7/09. Abbie Davenport, Shanelle Coolidge, Peter Wade, Al Sleight "I just wanted to send a note about the care I received from NorthStar on 09-02-09. I"ve been doing EMS for 29 years and know what it takes to treat patients who are sick or injured, even when they are friends or family. I had the opportunity to use this fine service and I've got to say they were FANTASTIC. When I finally reached the responding Units from Farmington, to my surprise there were TWO units waiting for me. Their care was swift and accurate. The TEAM work was SUPERB. Even though I was one of THEIR OWN, they acted in a PROFESSIONAL, CARING manner. You can be VERY proud of Peter Wade, Abbie Davenport,Shanelle Coolidge, and Al Sleight. They are the BEST. Please share this with the crew on my behalf. ” Note from NorthStar Paramedic CG, Jr.
- 8/31/09. Shanelle Coolidge, Abbie Davenport, Christie Pinkham, Gavin Smith (and Mike Senecal, Billye Senecal for coming in) "Last evening/early morning on Thursday was unique to all emergency response personnel. It has been many, many years since we were all faced with such a difficult situation.. Our service to the citizens in the Ethel Walton House was carried out in a very commendable manner. The Farmington Fire Rescue Department exends its appreciation to each of you for your cooperation, dedication to service and understanding durng this trying time. It shows that in diffcult situations we can work closely together and do the jobs we've been trained to do. Thank you for being there and [for] your rapid respnse. We all should be proud of this united effort. Thanks again to each of you for your continued commitment to serve our citzens.” Letter from Fire Chief Terry Bell concerning the structure fire at the location. NorthStar transported four patients and assisted several others.
- 8/21/09. Carl Blondell ""Thumbs Up" to the NorthStar ambulance crew, Carl Blondell, paramedic, Tiger Sikes [firefighter driver] and Casey Clark [ridealong]. Carl was very professional but very reassuring and kind. Tiger drove unbelievably smoothly over the rough roads under construction and Casey was an interesting young man learning the ropes. We were so fortunate to have such competent dedication when we needed it. Thank you!” Thumbs Up from the Rangeley Highlander
- 8/20/09. Ed Strapp, Brett Roberts (Bike Team), Justin Hurlburt "I would like to thank you for your support with the 27th Wilton Blueberry Festival. I couldn't do this event without TEAMWORK. Thanks again and keep up the great job you do for Franklin County Area.” Note from Shannon Smith, Chair WBBF
- 8/10/09. Carl Blondell (Transport), Shanelle Coolidge, Abbie Davenport (Transfer) "Thank you for caring for [patient] during her recent emergency hospitalization. It was a smooth and efficient transport to the hosptial, and you made the experience comfortable. It was a very positive experience and your care was greatly appreciated. Warmest regards.” Note from patient and family
- 8/7/09. Shanelle Coolidge, Gini Blais (Bike Team) "Thank you so much for providing two great bicycle EMTs for the road race this year [on 6/27]. Very comforting as the race organizer to know we had personable and professional folks on hand if needed. They were 'festive'!” Note from Kingfield Pops organizer
- 8/5/09. Ben Guild, Mike Senecal, Steve Smith, Ian Shamp, Christie Pinkham, Brett Roberts, Al Sleight "On 7/14/09 my mother suffered a massive coronary at her home. NorthStar Paramedics transported her to Franklin Memorial ER. Unfortunately she was unresponsive, having been without oxygen during the 30+ minutes the paramedics worked on her, and she was placed on a ventilator...Mom died [later], peacefully. Ben from NorthStar had stopped by to see how things were going and was with me when mom passed. His strong embrace was such a comfort to me at that moment. You have an amazing team and one to be extremely proud of. Thank you.” E-mail note from daughter recognizing not only NorthStar but the entire FMH team
- 7/2409. Shanelle Coolidge, Blaine Rackliff (Bike Team) "Thank you so much for your continued support regarding the Strawberry Festival road races. The Mt. Blue Cross Country teams appreciate what you do for us and look forward to working with you again.” Note from Race Director
- 7/28/09. Peter Wade, Shanelle Coolidge "Thank you for rendering your very professional services to my wife...when you transported her from Franklin Memorial Hospital to Central Maine Medical Center. I am sure this was not one of your easiest transfers. Your professionalism shone brightly that afternoon. Thank you all so very much.” Note from Patient's husband
- 7/16/09. Gavin Smith, Peggy Betts "Thank you for the kind, considerate and competent service that Gavin Smith and Peggy Betts tendered me on July 4 as I needed ambulance assistance. I was reassured as to what was happening and was able to keep calm during the early stages of my stroke... Over time I am hopeful the effects [of] it will subside. Gratefully, ” Note from Patient
- 7/13/09. Judi Wills (and Deb Clague, Wade Browne, Cory Morse) "In my 34 years in New Portland, I have always found Franklin Memorial Hospital staff exceptionally competent and kindly.” Avatar Survey Response
- 6/13/09. Don Salm, Conley Gould "I would like to inform you of an "atta-boy" needed...... for Conley Gould and Don Salm who, while not on duty, heard the call for 71 [Sugarloaf Crew] and got up at 4:30 AM one morning last week, to give me and my partner Chip .... a very needed hand with a VERY HEAVY patient .......much appreciated .... thanks for listening and helping out!! ” Note from Pete Boucher, WEMT-P, NorthStar Sugarloaf
- 6/5/09. Peter Wade, Gabe Gunning "On Thursday, April 2 I had to call the [Franklin] 911 system. I wish to both thank them for, and congratulate, the great response. First, the first responders from New Sharon; excellent job, guys! Second, the NorthStar Ambulance service; great work, ladies and gentlemen. I do not think there is a finer, more dedicated, better trained EMT section in the world than we have in the Farmington Maine area...” Letter to Editor, Franklin Journal, June 5, 2009
- 5/18/09. Ed Strapp, Steve Smith, Shanelle Coolidge "Please pass on a big thank you to your staff for their presence and support yesterday during the Sugarloaf Marathon and 15K. I ran the marathon and it struck me again how very important their role is because of the rural route of that marathon (a stark contrast to the Boston Marathon!) There is a lot of space between spectators so if a runner ran into trouble, the support of the bike medics becomes even more essential to the safety of the runners. I have every confidence in their responsiveness and knowledge. This race is just a small part of what they do, but a visible example of the community support they provide. Thanks.” Note from FCHN employee and runner
- 5/12/09. Corey Bonnevie, Peggy Betts "It's been nearly 8 months since you waded through a bog on Bald Mountain to come to my aid after slipping in mud & breaking my ankle. I'm fine now and my hiking days are over - I don't want to do that again. Cleaning house recently I came across the card you left with us. I do want to thank you for your care... Thanks again for everything.” Note from patient
- 4/27/09. Gavin Smith, Steve Smith "On 4-21-09 I experienced some unusual symptoms which made me wonder if I was having a heart attack. I soon found myself in the capable care of Gavin and Steve. They took such good care of me and helped me feel physically & mentally at ease! They are wonderful young professionals .” Note from patient
- 4/1/09. All Crews "As the chaplain for Vienna Fire and Mt. Vernon Rescue, I have observed your crew in action. They are a capable crew. But even more important . . . they are compassionate.” Note from local citizen
- 3/27/09. Peter Wade, Dean Robinson, Tom Doak, Felicia Harris, Dennis Kerrigan, Erika Bohlman, Lee Ireland, Chip Richardson, Pete Boucher, Al Sleight, Steve Smith, Christie Pinkham, Carol Pillsbury, Ed Strapp, Carl Blondell, Peggy Betts, Joe Carpenter, Stan Wilcox, Ian Shamp Director's note: Too many accolades to list out of this Wilton car vs pickup truck MCI. Calls and notes from several sources acknowleged the great job of not only the NorthStar crews on the scene but also the response to back up the duty crews at the local bases to assure seamless coverage in the area. To cite only one example (from JP Fortier): "I would like to say how great a job everyone did that afternoon. I happened to be at Franklin Dispatch when the first call came in. We were all in disbelief when the Wilton Chief began counting patients. I would like to especially commend Peter Wade for his initial role as NorthStar Incident command and first on-scene paramedic. GREAT JOB!!”
- 3/24/09. Carl Blondell, Harold Schaetzle, (and Casey) "Just wanted to say thank you for taking such good care of me last week. It really helps make a scary situation better when you know you're in good hands. Hope I see you in town but not "on the job" again!” Note from patient (the "Fainting Girl")
- 3/24/09. Jeremy O'Neil, Steve C. Grant "It is with sincere appreciation we say thank you for responding to the medical needs that presented themselves on a wintery Friday morning. Your willingness to drive over Height of Land and down Route 17 were above and beyond the call of duty. [Patient] is doing well, the ICD did not discharge, and his stress test was good! Thanks again.” Note from family
- 3/17/09. Justin Hurlburt, Beth Scott "Please thank Justin and Beth for a job well done. They certainly complement each other as a team. Our family certainly appreciated having such compasionate employees taking care of our 90 year old Aunt. What they thought was an easy run to Orchard Park Rehab. for a nose bleed, ended up in a transport to Portland. Many thanks from our family.” Note from a family member
- 3/17/09. Matt Smith, Jane Thorndike (initial call), Stan Wilcox, Ian Shamp (transfer) "Many thanks to all of you for your help on Feb. 1st in Phillips when I had my snowmobile accident. The bones in my leg were shattered and I've been told it may be 6 mos before I can walk on it. I'm hoping for a much lesser sentence! Again, many thanks.” Note (and donation) from patient
- 3/5/09. Becky Morin, Wade Browne, Ed Strapp, Al Sleight ".…she was able to donate many of her organs and as a result this benefited numerous other individuals. The NorthStar ambulance crew in concert with the Sugarloaf clinic did an outstanding job in extricating, immobilizing and stabilizing this critically injured young girl. On behalf of LifeFlight of Maine, I would like to congratulate you for the excellent job that you did and although we were not able to save her life, your actions ultimately helped numerous other lives on her behalf. Thank you for your ongoing efforts....” Letter from Kevin Kendall, MD, Medical Director, LifeFlight of Maine
- 3/4/09. Becky Morin, Eric Baker "My daughter [] was injured at Sugarloaf on 1/24/09. She was on a backboard and in a neck brace. The two of you made the trip to Farmington as pleasurable as it could be, given the circumstances. Becky educated me about the Huts n Trails in the front while Eric kept a close eye on [my daughter’s] medical status while telling stories of his children, as they traveled in the back. [She] loved hearing the stories! Once we were at the hospital, you both took great care to make sure we were clearly under the watchful eye of one of the ER nurses, that [my daughter] was comfortable and that all the registration “stuff” was done before you left. Thank you. The good news is that she ended up with a broken tailbone, which is so much better than I’d feared! We are both so grateful for the competent, compassionate care we received during what was for us, a terrifying experience. You both do your job so well and with such a human touch. Thank you!” Card from patient's mom
- 3/4/09. Mike Senecal, Dennis Kerrigan "On behalf of the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol, I would like to express our thanks to Dennis Kerrigan and Mike Senecal for taking time out of their busy schedules to put on a workshop for the professional members of the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol. Everyone that I have spoken to remarked about the high quality and professional attitude that was exhibited by Dennis and Mike during the presentation. This session helped build a stronger relationship between NorthStar Ambulance Service and Sugarloaf Ski Patrol. This workshop called Horrible Holes and Jams was preparing the ski patrol for the unexpected positions that we often find our patients in. The manner and professional way that this presentation was given helped every member that participated. Once again, I would like to express our thanks to Mike and Dennis for their time and commitment to helping other EMS providers prepare for better patient care.” Note from Al Sleight, Sugarloaf Ski Patrol
- 3/3/09. Tom Doak, Gini Blais, Jeremy O'Neil, Shanelle Coolidge "Dear Friends at NorthStar (known and unknown), We cannot thank you enough for coming to our aid so many times in the past few years. Between getting my husband to the hospital when his knee goes out of joint or for getting him on his feet or on his chair when he falls, you have helped us many times. Last Wednesday, you were here twice. We were on our way to Togus where [my husband] was scheduled to be evaluated for physical therapy at home. He fell in the garage and you quickly came to our aid. Going for the eval was an experience in futility… We got home at 8:00pm and [my husband] fell again getting into the kitchen. He fell off the stool that I had put under him. Anyway - back came a crew from NorthStar who got him up and in his chair. We think you are WONDERFUL! Thank you so much for all your help. God bless you all.” Note from patient’s wife
- 2/19/09. Carl Blondell, Earle Albert, Harold Schaetzle "Thank you is inadequate for your efforts, response and compassion when I lost my husband - husband, soulmate, father and grandpa to 5 grandchildren. We will be forever grateful." Note from patient's wife
- 2/3/09. Carl Blondell, Justin Hurlburt "I wanted to drop you both a note and thank you so much for your help on Monday, January 19th. My son tripped in mom’s kitchen and broke his femur bone. This was very scary for him and me as well and I really appreciate your patient yet quick response to his care. Your loving bedside manner and kindness especially in dealing with a child with Autism was much appreciated. … Thank you both again and keep up the great work you do for this community." Note from patient's mom
- 1/30/09. Corey Bonnevie, Steve Grant "Thank you Steve and Corey. Thanks for making my emergency very comfortable. I greatly appreciate everything you did." Note from patient
- 1/27/09. Becky Morin, Greg Drummond "I just had to take a momernt and let you kinow how much I appreciate the CV ambulance people. I had an episode a few weeks ago that Becky Morin made it much more bearable . She is so nice, professional and "present"! I have always respected their occupation but I feel I took it for granted. Not anymore! Please thank her for me and thank you and your company." Note from patient
- 1/23/09. Conley Gould, Jr., Chip Eames "...on the 28th of Dec.08 I broke my leg while skiing at Sugarloaf. I want to advise you of my experience with two of your employees, Conley Gould Jr. and Chip Eames. Too many times employees go and do their jobs and we take it for granted and nothing gets said. But mess one small part of the job up and some people complain like there is no tomorrow. I want Conley and Chip to be recognized for doing their duty to the utmost, being professional, and making my bad day as pleasant as they could. I am a retired policeman and have dealt EMS providers for years and these two employees are going to stick out in my mind for years to come. Please give Conley and Chip a "pat on the back" that they deserve! Thanks." Note from patient
- 11/25/08. Don Salm "Don, I know more than most what it takes to make a phone call to a stranger with news that is so devastating as the news of my brother's death was to me. I have been a volunteer fireman for 31 years and my son is paid Paramedic and volunteer so we have unfortunately felt people’s pains and have learned to deal with them. It was almost calming to me that a fellow volunteer and EMS member had control of my brother’s situation and was able to assure me that [his wife] was being taken care of, it allowed me to make the calls we all hate to make to family and friends and to sit and contemplate the good times by brother and I shared... I would like to thank you for the call, your compassion and your friendship to one of the most outspoken and right to the point people we both have had the privilege to know, my brother. We will all miss him. God Bless." Note to Don from the patient's brother
- 11/25/08. Nate Delavan "I spent the day at RFEMS today. Your name came up multple times in conversation regarding your clinical time. Comments were made on your "hustling" to help around the base, great questions, willingness to learn, and great patient care. "He will make a great ALS provider" quote by one of their respected Medics. It's clear that you represent KVCC and NorthStar very well even when wearing a different uniform. Well done." Note from NorthStar EMT doing Medic clinical rotation at Reddington. (Nate is doing EMT-I clinicals there.)
- 11/24/08. Rod Koehn, Sherry Given "Saturday night Rod Koehn, paramedic at the [NorthStar] Livermore Base, and his partner did an excellent job on a 49 year old with STEMI and 3rd degree heartblock. Activated the cath lab about 14 minutes out. Excellent outcome. Kudos." Note from Dr. Kevin Kendall, Medical Director, TriCounty EMS
- 11/19/08. Chuck Twitchell, Chip Eames "... Want to commend the guys from Carrabassett Valley... I was transported from elderly housing to FMH yesterday... the crew was really great... really super people, you should commend them" Phone message from patient
- 11/11/08. Sam Davis "... Thanks to Same Davis - Intermediate of NorthStar for making sure I was ok" Avatar Survey comment
- 11/11/08. Chip Eames "I am one the RNs at RFGH ER. I wanted to let you know how wonderful one of your students has been in the ER. Chip...has been in the ER several days following me, and he has been excellent. I have seen a tremendous growth in his skills, and he is a pleasure to have in our ER. I wanted to specifically tell you that I had a patient write a thank you to him, praising his excellent care. I... thought you would be glad to know what an excellent student you have. " Letter to Brian Chamberlain, training coordinator for the KVCC Intermediate Class
- 10/31/08. Carl Blondell, Harold Schaetzle "...First on the scene was NorthStar Ambulance Service. Both of the gentlemen working checked me out to be sure I was ok, as well as making sure my dogs Duke and Change had gotten out safely... " Letter to Rangeley Highlander focusing on Rangeley FD but a nice mention to NorthStar
- 10/28/08. Steve Smith, Peter McWalter, Beth Scott "I'm sure you know how great your staff is but I wanted to express my thanks to the NorthStar staff who responded to the scene when my car was hit Friday evening in front of Gifford's. Steve Smith and the other 2 staff were very calming, professional and really took their time with me. I have witnessed NorthStar respond to other people's emergencies but have never been on the receiving end of their care and I was truly impressed and grateful for their help. Please convey my thanks to them." Email from patient (and FCHN employee)
- 10/23/08. Jeremy O'Neill, Steve Grant "A special "Thumbs Up" to the two men that showed up at my house with the ambulance in the early hours of the morning of September 17. You were great!! I was scared and hurting and you were wonderful. Thank you." Rangeley Highlander 10/17 Thumbs Up/Down Section
- 10/14/08. Conley Gould, Justin Hurlburt, Brett Roberts, Tom Doak "Thank you for your help with my recent accident on Fenderson Hall. All your efforts were greatly appreciated. Conley, you are the best! Thanks again." Note from patient
- 9/24/08. Carl Blondell, Steve Grant "I recently required an ambulance trip from Oquossoc to [FMH]. The crew of Carl & Steve were top notch. Their response time was unbelievably quick. The locals said it would take twice the time it actually did. We were on vacation at Mountain View Camps. I lost the reference card they left for me - no surprise there - but I remember them and that trip well. I just wanted to give them an "atta boy." Email from patient
- 9/17/08. Crews at the Farmington Fair "I chaperoned by daughter’s field trip to the fair on Monday and she LOVED the NorthStar ambulance demonstration and giveaways! Your EMT’s did a great job with the kids! " Note from FMH employee
- 9/1/08. Gavin Smith, Tom Doak, Gini Swan, Steve Smith "I would like to express my thanks for Gavin, Gini, Tom, and Steve Smith (Jay PD) for responding and helping me with my recent and first motor vehicle accident. The fact that I knew all of them made things for me on scene much easier to deal with, and then when I was transported by Tom and Gavin, having Gavin in the back with me while I was en-route to FMH, having Gavin still explaining how he was going to handle the call, and what he was going to do, even though I am very aware of how an EMS call is handled, helped to relieve a lot of the edge about going to the hospital. Gavin, Tom and Gini along with Steve embody what every EMS provider should be, calm, cool, compassionate, and understanding of what their patients go through; overall 4 stars for them all!" Letter from patient (and NorthStar EMT)
- 8/08. (Unknown) "The ambulance personnel were wonderful and professional as well. It was evident all these people enjoyed what they were doing." Anonymous comment on an Avatar response
- 8/29/08. Pete Boucher, Eric Baker "Thank you for your excellent help in getting my wife to the FM Hospital. On July 18, Pete and Eric not only took charge upon arrival in Eustis, but made us both comfortable with their explanations. The fact that there was no siren blaring upon arrival or departure was of great importance to both of us. The men explained that I should give them about an hour to get to FMH and gave the phone number at the ER. After an hour, I phoned ER and was told that they were just "rolling in" and that it would be about another hour before the results of admitting tests would be known. I picked up and secured our house and headed to the hospital There is so much more to tell... My heart goes out to all of you people." Letter from patient's husband

- 8/27/08. Joe Carpenter, Sam Davis, Carol Pillsbury "[My wife] and I thank you from the depths or our hearts for your help on Saturday evening. You came quickly, you practiced your craft skillfully, and you were kind. No one can ask or need any more, you gave it all! Our towns are lucky to have emergency responders like you to help us. We can only apologize for interrupting your enjoyment of the fireworks at the park. " Letter to Editor to crews, Kingfield Irregular
- 8/12/08. Jeremy O'Neil, Harold Schaetzle "On August 6, I had the misfortune to have an allergic reaction which caused an abrupt onset of angioedema. I was at home alone and when I realized what was happening I called 911. The dispatcher was very helpful and reassuring and within minutes, Harold Schaetzle and Jeremy had responded. From the moment they came in the house I felt calmer. They were both professional, knowledgable and comforting. They treated me here and then transported me to Farmington. The trip was very smooth and Jeremy explained everything he was doing which helped to distract me from my breathing problems. I also have COPD so was quite uncomfortable. I think that the people of the Rangeley Region are extremely fortunate to have medical personel of the caliber of Jeremy and Harold. Thank you for your excellent service. " Letter from patient
- 8/12/08. Chuck Twitchell, Judi Wills, Becky Morin, Wade Browne, Mike Senecal, Greg Drummond, Carl Blondell, Pete Boucher, Chip Eames, Brian Rundlett, Stephenie Boucher "A thanks to all who participated in my rescue from Little Bigelow. To assemble such a crew, on such short notice, is truly amazing. Because of you, my road to recovery is smoother! Many thanks." Note from "Rip Van Winkle", an AT hiker with a broken ankle carried out by NorthStar Backcountry Medical Response Team, NorthStar crews and several local fire department personnel
- 8/5/08. Becky Morin (Greg's response to the 8/1/08 entry below) "[This] means a lot, especially coming from Becky, who is one of my heroes. For those who weren’t there it is difficult to imagine what that rescue was like. It definitely was the most strenuous rescue I have ever been involved in. I am lucky since my entire adult life has been spent in some sort of endeavor that involves being in woods almost every day. Those folks who participated without that advantage showed some real strength of character. I saw a lot of fear and intimidation being shrugged off and not one of the group gave in to it. Becky took at least 2 hard falls during the scramble to get across bare rock faces between bouts of lightning. She took over patient care immediately and performed flawlessly to the finish. While the rest of us enjoyed coffee and pizza she continued onto the ambulance with her patient. I can’t say enough good things about her. Thanks again. " Note from Greg, a NorthStar responder on the AT rescue
- 8/5/08. Jeremy O'Neil, Steve C. Grant, Harold Schaetzle "On the night of July 25, Jeremy, Steve & Harold provided my Dad with medical treatment on Bonney Point Rd. They were professional, calm, nice (to my Dad and family) and a very important part of helping us all feel taken care of. " Note from patient's daughter
- 8/1/08. Mike Senecal, Greg Drummond (and a host of others) "I wanted to let you know what a "super human" effort Mike and Greg put in on our backcountry rescue yesterday - and today. Physically it was a challenge reaching the patient over difficult terrain and then once we were at the scene with our patient they continued on through a terrible thunderstorm and torrential rain over a ridge on the other side to assist another team coming from the other end who were carrying the litter and more supplies. And on the carry out their strenght plus their ability to keep a group of wet, tired, hungry, thirsty, and sometimes grumbling carry out team moving forward was vital in getting our patient and all of us off that mountain. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks. " Note from Becky, one of the first NorthStar "hasty team" staff to reach the patient on the AT
- 7/29/08. Peter Wade, Chip Eames "Your ambulance service responded to a call ... on my behalf Sunday, July 27. I wish to thank the fine men who manned the ambulance and helped me . They were courteous, friendly and very competent." Note from patient
- 7/21/08. Nate Delavan, Carl Blondell, Eric Baker, Don Salm "I would like to express my sincere thank you to Nate, Carl, Eric and especially Don Salm on their assisting with the transportation of my "95 year old" Dad from Eustis to FMH on Saturday. Don went out of his way to check back with me twice after having left Dad at the hospital which was above and beyond the call of duty. Thanks to all for providing us such great service." Letter from patient's son
- 7/21/08. Brett Roberts, Gavin Smith, Peter Wade, Shanelle Coolidge "Many thanks! Our family wants to thank the crew on the night of June 16th. They gave our son a fighting chance, and helped save his life. Thanks is not enough for giving us our son. [Our son] is doing very well and has been home for almost 3 weeks now. He will soon be getting his new leg and a start on his new life." Card from Parents
- 7/15/08. Jeremy O'Neil, Steve Grant "I am writing to you today to pass on some feedback on your ambulance service provided to me on May 25, 2008. I work at the US Navy Survival School in Redington Township. On May 25th I needed medivac for a painful intestinal blockage ... Jeremy and Steve were dispatched to our property. I was handed over into their care for transport to Franklin Memorial which from our propery is a one hour trip. During this time, these 2 expeditiously prepped me and made sure that I was completely comfortable the whole way there, Jeremy kept me busy with some pretty good conversation as to keep my mind off the pain and the time. Steve did his very best not hit all the pptholes on Route 4. In short, these two were awesome and I am very grateful that they were on duty that night. Again thanks." Letter from Patient
- 7/10/08. Conley Gould, Judi Wills, Deb Clague "Just wanted to let you know that Conley, Judi, and Deb provided firefighter rehab at a structure fire in New Portland on Sat. July 5th. It was a two structure fire and a very hot day and firefighters were getting exhausted in a short time during the fight. The rehab that was provided by the NorthStar team was exceptional, with vitals taken on dozens of firefighters and suggestions for hydration and rest was well recieved. On behalf of all the departments involved we want them to know that thier efforts were much appreciated. Thank You." Note from Kingfield Fire Chief
- 7/9/08. Chuck Twitchell, Pete Boucher, Greg Drummond, Stephenie Boucher, Steve Yates, Chip Eames "[We] would like to thank you for everything you did for me when I had an anaphylactic reaction on Friday, June 27. From what I understand I would no longer be here if not for your quick response and dedication to your job. We are very fortunate to have people like you serving our community. Words alone cannot express our feelings." Letter to The Irregular from Patient
- 7/4/08. Carl Blondell, Ben Guild, Blaine Rackliff, Rod Koehn "... Four members of NorthStar Ambulance Service took their time and expended their energy to honor Allan by riding their bicycles from New York City to Roanoke. It was some impressive to see them ride into the hotel courtyard, some 70 bikers riding to honor 73 people lost this year to tragic deaths." - 6/16/08. Cory Morse, Judi Wills, Chuck Twitchell, Brian Rundlett "I just wanted to say thank you for the fast response of the Carrabasset team to the home of [my father] on the evening of June 16. That night my father was experiencing heart failure and his lungs were filling with fluid. If it had not been for the immediate response of the Carrabasset team and, in particular, the first responder, a gentleman who arrived in his own vehicle [ed note: that would be Brian Rundlett], we do not feel that my father would have survived. Thanks to them we still have him. Please pass along my family’s sincerest gratitude. " Letter from Patient's Daughter
- 6/16/08. Harold Schaetzle, Jeremy O'Neil, Peggy Betts "We are writing to thank you for the wonderful services that your staff provides. On Sunday, May 25th, my husband had a medical emergency at the Alpine Shop in Rangeley. In short, he had a diabetic seizure and since it had never happened before, neither he nor I had any idea of what was happening or how to cope with it. Your staff arrived within minutes of the call. I cannot thank the team of responders - Harold, Jeremy and Peg, enough. They took control of the situtation, got all the necessary info and kept me calm while attending to testing my husband's blood sugar and making the decision to get an IV into him. I felt confident that the situation was "in control". We are very grateful for the expertise, care and professionalism and, moreover, for their friendly approach to a crisis situation. Again, thank you and please forward our appreciation to the team. Best Wishes," Letter from Patient's Wife
- 5/22/08. Mike Senecal, Ed Strapp "Please pass along my sincere thanks to Mike Senecal and his partner [Ed Strapp] for their help last Sunday during the Sugarloaf Marathon. They went above and beyond their job responsibilities in providing support to me! Let me explain: My problem began early in the race as it was necessary for me to run "into the woods" in the first 2 miles. Ugh! I saw Mike and partner shortly after that and joked with them and then a few visits to the woods later, I saw them again and joked about needing Immodium. They offered to get it for me but I mentioned that it probably wasn't a good idea during a marathon. They said they would have it for me at the finish. The next time I saw them, they told me that they had spoken with someone who was a wilderness expert who said it would be ok for me to take it on course. The mile 17 water stop was coming up and they had if for me there and with the information they had acquired, I decided to take it. I only ran into the woods one more time at mile 19 (for the 6th time!) I was considering dropping out of the race at one point, something I had never done (this was my 18th marathon and my biggest challenge!) but with their help I persevered and finished with a respectable time. I even won my age group! Anyway, I just wanted to express my gratitude to them and to let you know of the situation. They certainly did not need to do what they did and I was very impressed! Gives new meaning to the phrase "taking care of your own"! Please feel free to share this note with them." FMH Employee
- 5/20/08. Carol Pillsbury, Sam Davis "Dear Carol and Sammy, Thank you for showing us your building and ambulance. The ride on the stretcher was fun. Seeing our heartbeats was cool. We really liked the lights and noise the ambulance made. It hurt our teacher's ears. Thank you also for the bright yellow jacket, blanket and safety kit. Please thank your friend for the popcorn. Your Friends, Mat & Alex" Two deaf children after a tour of NorthStar's Farmington Base

- 5/12/08. Jane Thorndike "I am writing to thank the person or persons that made sure my Wilton Blueberry Festival Flyer got to Sugarloaf last weekend. I had made other plans and it didn't work out. I called and talked to Jane and she made it work. Teamwork is a very special factor that I share with many. Thanks again." Shannon Smith, Chair Blueberry Festival

Bob Fox, Steve Smith, Felicia Harris, Tom Doak, Carlyle Smart, Gavin Smith, Eric Baker, Erika Bohlman, Sherry Given (and Don and Abbie) "We thank you so much for all your hard work to put the events of today together. - 4/29/08. Tom Doak, Ben Guild, Stan Wilcox, Ian Shamp "The family of [patient] would like to thank you for the excellent service we received earlier this month. In a time of crisis, you provided stability and comfort.” Note from Patient's daughter
- 4/10/08. Deb Clague, Pete Boucher "I want to thank you both so much for the excellent care you gave my son last Saturday, March 29th. Having a child injured and wisked off in an ambulance is terrifying but you both helped me feel at ease. He is doing well...back to school and improving daily. Thanks again for everything. You should be proud of the difference you make in peoples' lives.” Note from Patient's mom
- 4/3/08. Gini Swan, Pete Wade, Dean Robinson, Ian Shamp, Stan Wilcox, Mike Senecal "I want to thank everyone who responded to the recent demise of Unit 8. The response was so quick and the professionalism of the responding crews was impressive. I can only hope that if anyone else is involved in an event like this, I will be able to respond as professionally while showing care and concern in the same way you all did. Thank You! Pete, Dean, Stan, Ian, you treated and transported quickly and professionaly, and, somehow, were able to check and care for Gini and I to be sure we were OK. Thank You! Mike, on your way before we could make the call, you took care of details, stayed with Gini and I, transported us, picked up Elaine from home and brought her to the hospital, and took us home after "gentle" urging that I should take the rest of the shift off, and arranging to cover the "space" vacated by the crash. Thank You! Dave, for your calls of concern and support, Thank you. To the crews that left their "comfort Zones" to fill the gap, 71 [Becky, Greg] covering Farmington, the call-in crew 41 [Don, Joe] covering Sugarloaf, 31 or 32 (I never can keep it straight) covering Livermore, Thank you. Last, but not least by any means, Gini for being a true partner in every sense of the word. You took a hard hit from the air bag and were hurt, your wrist hurt, but you did what was needed attempting to get another victim away from the gasoline spill, communicating, getting the stretcher and a spine board from our busted-up truck, and assisting me to care for him until we could turn him over to the other crew, no matter how confused you thought you were, you acted as a true professional without regard for your own condition. You exemplify all that is good in a true EMS provider and you are truly a great partner. Thank You! ... Thank you to everyone who called to express concern and offer support and assistance. This "extended family" is what keeps me doing this job shift after shift because you are there with that concern and support when any of us have a bad day. I hope I return that same level when it is needed. To all of NorthStar, whatever your role, no matter how you perceive our current situation, be proud of who you are. You are part of a great group of people and that, after all, is what really counts in any organization. Thank you all. ” Note from Tom Doak, EMT-P
- 4/3/08. Tom Doak, Pete Wade, Dean Robinson, Ian Shamp, Stan Wilcox, Mike Senecal "Many thanks. I want to thank everyone who was at the 1055 Tom and I were involved in on April 1st. I found it very confusing to what my role was at the time of the accident. I know I was shaken up and the crap that is in the airbag was terrible. Thank goodness for the airbag but I was coughing so hard initially-wanted to take care of the person in the truck but at this time I was not able to. It was hard to be the person involved and needing some help but very confusing for me knowing that I am the provider and someone needs my help... Everyone there, Pete, Dean (who took over pt care of the driver), Ian (thanks for relaxing me and helping me you were great very concerning and caring and persistent which I needed :)) and Stan who I really did not see much I think you were with the passenger. Everyone, thanks so much. And Mike you are a dedicated ops manager, you signed on the radio so quickly and arrived by our side. You were generally concerned and was sure our needs were met, you stayed with us on scene at the hospital and made sure we made it home (you took us!!!). Dave thanks for calling into the hospital and talking to us individually thanks. I have heard from many coworkers/friends everyone thank you so much for your concern. This is all what makes me stay here at FMH well NorthStar. And formost and most important I want to thank Tom from the bottom of my heart, Tom you did everything right, everything possible to avoid the collision. I was confused after initial impact, just happened so fast, and the airbag deployment takes you by surprise,.... Tom you made sure I was taken care of 1st. You pulled rank on me :) . Thanks alot. I am proud to be your partner. Thanks so much.” Note from Gini Swan, EMT-I (going on P!)
- 3/21/08. Dave Rackliffe, Mike Senecal "I want to formally thank... David Rackliffe for donating 3 first-aid kits to the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.... During [David's] most recent teaching stint, he brought to our attention the fact that our first-aid kits were generally deficient in first aid supplies. David ... asked if your company could make a community service donation. He did and you agreed. For that, on behalf of my staff of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and the officers that we train throughout Maine, we are extermely grateful. Again, thank you so much for your most generous donation.” Letter from the Director, Maine Criminal Justice Academy
- 3/21/08. Greg Drummond, Justin Hurlburt, Becky Morin, Ed Strapp, Barry London, Brian Rundlett, Chuck Twitchell, Earle Albert, Peggy Betts, Dean Robinson, Peter Wade, Kingfield Fire, Carabassett Fire "I'd like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to all those who responded, both on-and off-duty, and helped me (and the 6 patients) at the car vs tractor trailer on the skating rink we normally call the Carrabassett Valley S-turns last night. Only those who have "been there" can truly appreciate the value of a rapid and significant backup when its "crunch time" in the truest sense of the word. I was glad I could place pts in the hands of very caring and capable people and be assured all would be well with them. The Carrabassett Valley FD and Kingfield FD, as well as other FD members did a remarkable job in extricating/cutting/peeling the car off the pt, using 2 spreaders, a cutter, and several saws-all blades. Everyone did a great job in handling a difficult and protracted operation in a very calm, deliberate, and professional manner which made it one of the most "cluster-free" ops I've been on. And thanks to 31 crew for covering as another backup resource and to the 61 crew who came over from Rangeley over quite dangerous roads to care for the truck driver. Thanks everyone.....lets not do this again for awhile !!” Email from lead Paramedic on the scene, Pete Boucher
- 3/18/08. Jeremy O'Neil, Joe Carpenter "I would like to tell you how marvelous the House Call program is for my circumstances. My husband is elderly and has dementia. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance on Sunday morning [ed note: by Carl Blondell, Peggy Betts, Dave Rackliffe] after collapsing at our home...I was concerned about how I was going to get him back into our home as he was weak and we have two high steps to get into the house. Betsy Graves in the E.R. was kind enough to call NorthStar and inquire if there was a program that could help me once I got into Phillips and by my home. Betsy gave me a phone number to call when I got close to home. As I drove into my road there sat a NorthStar ambulance. I was so grateful to see them waiting. They got him into our home with no problem. I, on the other hand, would have had a problem doing it alone. I realized this as I watched them maneuvering him around. The young men were very polite and helpful. We hear so much about the bad things that happen in the community and the programs that do not work. I felt it important to let you both [D. Robie & R. Batt] know that we have a good program that is helpful for the community, especially in the rural areas as mine. Thank you so much for this program and the wonderful personnel that make it work.” Email from patient's wife
- 3/13/08. Justin Hurlburt and entire Crew "You guys do such good work - it is such important work. Thank you for trying to vounteer for the blood drive. It went well.” Email from FMH Volunteer Coordinator [crew volunteered to help call donors but was busy on a transport]

Thank you for your professionalism and caring ways... She is still very sore but recuperating quickly ... she ... will ski again! Thank you once again.” Email from patient's parents
- 3/5/08. Conley Gould, Deb Clague, Ed Strapp "On Saturday evening, March 1, I had the misfortune to be involved in a motor vehicle accident... I remember talking to Ed Strapp, who was very helpful and comforting while doing his assessment of the situation... Conley Gould and Deb Clague were the attendants on duty that night and they quickly worked on me and my passenger... All of these folks worked very quickly and professionally to stablize us and prepare for the trip to Farmington. Their calm manner and decision making turned an unpleasant event into a stress less trip to the hosptial. To just say "thank you" does not begin to express how much their efforts were, and are, appreciated. Sometimes we meet the nicest people "by accident" and these folks were great. Each one talked with us as if we were old friends and not just another accident victim. Please extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to Ed, Deb and Conley for all that they did for us last Sturady night. All of us "loafers" from out of the area are very fortunate to have such a fine service and dedicated staff to be there whenever called upon.” Letter from Patient
- 2/29/08. Carol Pillsbury, Sam Davis "I just wanted to thank you for helping my Dad on February 15th when he fell at his house and broke his hip.... I have so much respect for you people. Years ago I took an ambulance course and decided it was a job I just couldn't do. Thanks so much.” Note from Patient's Daughter
- 2/23/08. Gini Swan "I wanted to write today and tell you about an experience that [we] had with one of your staff. On Friday, we hit a patch of black ice on Rt. 2 (Morrison Hill) and I flipped my new truck on it's side. We came to rest on all four tires. It was very traumatic, but we were able to walk away with only minor aches and pains. An off duty EMT, who works for Northstar, came upon the scene. She said her name was Gini and she was phenomenal. We had very bad cell service. She managed to get through to 911 for us. She made sure that we were ok. We felt that our injuries did not require an ambulance but assured her that we would seek medical attention. She ... stayed with us for quite awhile. I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate the commitment of your staff to assisting those in need in the community whether on duty or not. Gini deserves a great deal of credit for her care, concern and professionalism. ...Would you please pass along our deepest appreciation? Thank you so much.” Email

- 1/14/08. Carl Blondell "Carl was called to the scene. Within his scope of practice I have to say he is more than just a professional. He listened to me and then took control. He has a working knowledge of chronic pain and Fibromyalgia… He treated me with “Respect” and “Compassion”… He would coach my breathing when I went into spasms all the way to the Hospital. He also stayed and coached me onto the bed in the ER… My grandchildren would say, “Carl is the Man.” I say, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart.” Letter from patient
- 1/9/08. Deb Clague, Dennis Kerrigan, Conley Gould "Hello. My thanks to Deb, Dennis and Conley for their medical expertise while caring for my husband [ ] on December 14. - 1/2/08. Judi Wills, Cory Morse "I am writing this thank you letter for Judi & Cory in Carrabassett Valley, Me. My family and I were...snowmobiling and our 11 year old son was driving his own sled when he hit a patch of ice and lost control. He was fine after his little mishap except that his helmet strap cut his chin.... We wanted him to be looked at by someone in the medical field. We made a few phone calls and were in touch with Judi & Cory and they were more than happy to take a look at our son. They were very pleasant and accommodating to our situation. Their assessment was that he did not need stitches and that all was fine, they gave us our care instructions and off we went back to our vacation in a short amount of time. Thank you for having them there... Again thank you." Letter from mom (from Mass.)
- 12/31/07. Jeremy O'Neil, Peggy Betts "I received exceptional care in the handling of my transportation by the paramedics, Jeremy and Peggy, and the support staff. Abbie Davenport, Ed Strapp "On Sunday, Unit 71 with Abbie and Ed Strapp responded to a man down, unresponsive, no pulse at Sugarloaf.....Steph and I responded to help out from our camp in Freeman....I just wanted to pass on that Abbie and Ed did an outstanding job in treating the pt......when I met them at the airport they had done all the things I would have done.......no unnecessary drama...cool and collected...I was more of an observer than anything else...did a great job in bringing him back and stabilizing him for Lifeflight. I see he passed away the next day but that doesn't take away from a job well done. I just wanted to pass this along." Well deserved accolade from a peer

- 9/21/07. Steve Smith "I would like to pass on the comments that my Uncle Butch had to say about Steve Smith, an EMT who took care of him last week. My uncle was attending a committal service at the cemetery in Wilton, when he passed out and was quite ill. Uncle Butch related that Steve took very good care of him. My uncle vomited quite a bit, and Steve held his forehead, asked for towels, and made sure my uncle stayed clean throughout the ordeal. Uncle Butch felt very safe and as comfortable as possible, with Steve taking care of him. I just wanted to be sure that Steve knows this and that you, as his supervisor, also know. Thanks so much to both of you for the care my favorite uncle received!" Editor's note: In a phone call, she also used the phrases from her uncle: "great care", "tender", "held his head", "very attentive", and "in good hands". Phone call and email

- 7/30/07. Sean Estabrook, Jane Thorndike, Penny Salm, Peter Wade "I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and to commend your employees, Sean, Jane, Penny and Peter. These individuals served on the response team for my son who was severely injured on July 21st in an ATV accident. The ambulance met us on Route 4 south near Rangeley and assisted in transport to a nearly field for medflight to Central Maine Medical Center. These individuals expressed keen interest in the comfort and safety of my son. Their efforts ensured a good outcome in an otherwise life threatening situation. My son was subsequently transferred to Boston Children's Hospital where he underwent neurosurgery and is making steady progress. Again, my family is grateful for their exceptional efforts." Email from patient's parents
- 6/25/07. Jeremy O'Neil, Peggy Betts (and Steve C. and Steve H. Grant) "On Saturday, May 26, 2007, our son had a very serious accident on Saddleback Mountain while riding his dirt bike... I can't begin to tell you how much [patient's aunt who rode in the ambulance] conveyed to us her appreciation to Peggy and Jeremy for being there for [our son]. Peggy, you were on the radio trying to find the best way to an area where you could get [him] in the ambulance, and Jeremy you were the Paramedic on duty that we hear, and know now, "is the best"!!! What Jeremy did to help [our son] in so many ways is indescribable. His expertise in his field, kindness, sense of humor, patience and understanding for the patient was remarkable... Since [the patient] was 2-1/2 miles into (up) the mountain, we understand how difficult it had to have been to try to get to him. Your job is not easy by any means.... We just wanted to convey our sincere, heartfelt thanks for taking care of our son. Thank you so very much for all you did for [our son]. We truly appreciate it - more than words can express." Mike Senecal, Wade Browne, Abbie Davenport, Tom Doak, Blaine Rackliff, Ray Edgar, Brett Roberts "I would like to take a brief opportunity to thank you and your staff for your greatly needed assistance at our recent Haz-Mat incident at NewPage Corporation. It is great to know that we can always rely on your assistance and the professionalism of your staff when called upon to assist us. During this event I was very pleased with what seemed to be a well organized and fully integrated EMS system. I thought that all of the EMS reponders did a great job with organization, coordination and teamwork throughout the entire event. We are very fortunate that we train together regularly and have no territorial animosity. As in the case of this event it clearly paid off without a hitch. Please extend my thanks to your entire staff and understand that we will also be your EMS partners when an event arises that you need our assistance as well. I look forward to our continued support of each other at the local level, as well as the overall joint commitment in providing EMS within the rural setting that we serve on a daily basis." I cannot express [enough] my admiration for these people and their services. The whole episode was very scary for me but I could see that [my fiancé] was in capable hands. It was apparent a lot of knowledge and training were behind the excellent services we received. [Patient] was transmitted [sic] to FMH and I rode in the cab. The young woman, I believe was Emily, kept me engaged in conversation on the ride, which I feel kept me from panicing. I am in her debt and all the others who were extremely courteous, professional and efficient in their actions with us. Thank you again for being there. I would like to give a personal thank you to Pete, Conley, Emily, Deborah and Ed." Letter from patient's fiancé (and patient)(from Stratton).

Since I was chaperoning a school trip and without a vehicle they allowed me to ride up front in the ambulance. I know this isn't customary for your company; however they realized that I needed to be with my daughter while my husband borrowed a vehicle to meet me. Their kindness helped us through a scary few hours. We thought she may have had neck/back injury. Fortunately my daughter was fine other than a sore leg and a few scratches. I want to just express our appreciation to your company, Ray and Brett for being there for us that day and for taking such good care of our daughter.
