- Congratulations to Dave Ryan on passing his Paramedic program class. On to Practicals! Well done and good luck!
- We wish Jeremy Manzer all the best as he recovers from a broken foot. You should see the other guy (just kidding!)
- Congratulations Nate and Misty Delavan! Saturday, August 14 saw them tie the knot and enter into wedded bliss. Best wishes to NorthStar's newest couple!
- In late September, we will be putting on a full time Medic at NorthStar's Phillips Base. It is posted now. Although open to anyone, we will be looking at internal candidates first. If interested, get your internal application in.
- Not that it has a whole lot to do with us but Dr. Rebecca Chagrasulis has replaced Dr. Kevin Kendall as the TriCounty EMS Regional Medical Director.
- There will be an update to MEMSRR during the evening of September 1. For a couple hours between 2100 and 2300 the internet system will be unavailable for entry or posting. There will also be a change in the password requirements. Details to follow.
- NorthStar's Education Committee minutes are now featured on the Staff Page along with the CQI and Equipment Committees' minutes. Take some time to read the minutes and get to know what is going on.
- (revised...) It is still a work in progress but there will be some staff movement over the next couple of months... Effective right now, in Farmington, Abbie and Steve will switch. Effective in November, Abbie will go to Livermore as Chip's partner (for the 16s) and do 24 with Gini. Cory will be stepping down from CQI in September (after a great 4 year run - thank you, Cory!!) and Tom will be coming off the truck for 16 to work CQI. When Abbie goes to Livermore in November, we'll have an opening in Farmington (Carl's partner, level tbd). With Tom's schedule moving around, there will be more PRN time (mostly in 8s) in Livermore. It's complicated. Stay tuned!
- Welcome Back, Tom! Arm is all mended and he's cleared to work. Back on the truck toward the end of August, working CQI and other projects between now and then. Nice to have you back.
- The MEMS EMD Committee is looking for members. This 11 member committee advises MEMS on dispatch issues. Meets 3rd Thursday 0930-1130 in Augusta. Among others they need an "At Large Rep." Anyone involved in dispatch (including EMS people) may apply. Send a letter indicating why you'd be good for the committee to Drexel White at MEMS.
- The newest NorthStar committee is now up and running. The Education Committee, chaired by Carol Pillsbury will be meeting somewhat monthly. Charged with arranging the best training in the state for NorthStar staff, they will be seeking input and providing great opportunities for learning and participating. Initial committee membership is composed of Carol, Mike Senecal (as Ops Manager liasion), Becky Morin, Beth Scott, Chuck Twitchell, Darlene Peters, Dennis Kerrigan, Don Salm and Stan Wilcox. Let any one of the Committee members know what you want!
- Couple of NorthStar Procedure updates... 3.04 Glucometers... As long as every glucometer is checked and logged on Mondays, there is no longer any need to check after every patient use. And 3.11 License Level of Care is a new procedure that gives guidance on when a patient can be teched by an EMT-B or -I when there is a Medic on board. Check 'em out.
- From the planning ahead department... KVEMS will be sponsoring an EMT-I class in Farmington starting in January. FMI, see Carol. And watch NorthStar's Training Page.
- We welcome EMT-B PRN Ben Clark. He'll be rounding the bases after orientation. Welcome aboard! (and, as a PS, Julia Crosby, EMT-B PRN, brought on a couple months ago, is also going to be (finally) on the orientation rounds over the next few weeks.)
- NetLearning... First, you guys are doing an awesome job keeping up on this. Thank you for your good work. Please continue to do so! And, unfortunately, they've added a new one... Hazard Communication. Please get it done as soon as you can (and sweep up any you've missed recently at the same time.) Thanks!
- Here's an easy, free 1.5 CEHs... Maine EMS has created a training module for OLMC at www.quantiamd.com/maineems. While focused on the role of OLMC, EMS staff can earn CEHs by taking the course as well. And it shows us what OLMC should know. Takes about an hour (or you can 'next' your way through it pretty quickly) with a test at the end. You need to register at the site first then take the course. Give it a shot. I passed!
- If you live, work, play, have relatives or ever pass through the greater Livermore Falls area, you should know about a great little website: www.jllfhealthservices.org. All the health related services (even vets and funeral homes!) in the area are listed here. Bookmark it and tell your friends!
