Landowner’s Forum to Address Liability Laws
Informational meeting taking place on May 17
May 4, 2011
Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) is hosting a free landowner’s forum, as part of its Mapping Our Footsteps initiative. This project funded by the Environmental Funders Network, focuses on connecting public health and the local natural environment through the promotion of local walking and hiking trails throughout Greater Franklin County.
The landowner’s forum is an opportunity for local landowners and managers to learn more about their rights and responsibilities, and the benefits in regard to public use of their lands. Bob Duplessie, director of the Recreational Access & Landowner Relations for the state of Maine, will speak about landowner liability laws and how local outdoor groups and organizations can work with property-owners to allow public use on private land. Additionally, landowners and managers will have an opportunity to learn more about Mapping Our Footsteps and www.mainetrailfinder.com and resources for sustainable land use.
"The many walking and hiking trails throughout the area are a wonderful resource for our community and we are fortunate in Greater Franklin County that so many private landowners allow public access to their land. We want to encourage property-owners and trail groups to work together to help maintain existing trails and expand new trails in the future,” said Heather Davis, HCC executive director.
The landowner’s forum will be held from 5:30–7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at the Farmington Elks Lodge located at 120 School Street in West Farmington.
