More than $21,000 was raised at the annual Healthcare Golf Classic held July 18 and 19 at the Sugarloaf Golf Club. Twenty-two teams from throughout New England took part in the Sunday and Monday tournaments.

This year marked the 23rd year of the tournament; its longevity and success is due to the generous support of tournament sponsors and individuals. Proceeds from the tournament, coordinated by Franklin Community Health Network, benefit the Healthy Community Coalition and the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center. Both provide health services to people throughout Greater Franklin County.

Highlights of the tournament were the lively Sunday night dinner and awards ceremony at Gepetto’s, with the introduction of tournament major sponsors and the announcement of that day’s results. First place went to Team Kozak & Gayer, PA, comprised of Carol Johnson, Julius Ciembroniewicz, Steven Johnson, and Greg Gravel.

Monday the winner of first place “gross” was Franklin Somerset FCU comprised of Cass Hirschfelt, Anthony Veneziano, Brian Willette, and Jason Winslow. Second place went to Franklin Savings Bank made up of Peter Judkins, Gary Downs, Scott Morton, and Jamie Eastlack. Third place went to the Team Webber whose members were Peter Webber, Seth Wescott, Pat Blake, and Kelly Welch.

The first place “net” team was Jeff McGowen, Steve Cates, Geoff Hart, and Gus Demos representing Waste Management. Second net went to the Town of Carrabassett Valley Team of Dave Cota, Bob Luce, Jay Reynolds, and Deb Bowker. Third place went to the Kyes Insurance Team of Rock Bjorn, Judy Bjorn, Jill Perry, and Flint Christie.

Rebecca Ryder, Franklin Community Health Network president/CEO was on hand Monday to greet the players. She would like to extend her thanks to Gepetto’s, the Sugarloaf Golf Club and its maintenance staff, and the FCHN Tournament Committee for a great job!

The Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center provides women with timely access to state-of-the-art breast cancer screening, diagnostic, clinical, and care-support services. The Center is located in the Franklin Health Medical Arts Center in Farmington and memorializes a Carrabassett Valley resident who was a victim of breast cancer.

The Healthy Community Coalition and its mobile health unit promote health and well-being through disease prevention, health education, and community building. Based in Farmington and an affiliate of Franklin Community Health Network, the coalition has received statewide and national recognition for its innovative programs.
