Full Free Day of Skiing and Riding at Spruce Mountain in Jay
Taking place Saturday Feb. 16
February 12, 2013
Franklin Savings Bank and Western Mountain Financial Services have teamed up with the Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) to sponsor a full day of healthy winter outdoor activities for Mainers.
Spruce Mountain Ski Slope in Jay will be free Saturday, February 16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for skiing and other activities. Maine Winter Sports will make 70 pairs of cross-country skis and about 20 pairs of snowshoes available for free. Quantities are limited so come early. First-come, first served. Alpine ski rentals are available to rent locally but not at the ski slope.
“We love sponsoring the free ski events but are more excited than ever this year because it is a full day and on a weekend,” said Lorna Niedner, manager of the Jay Branch of Franklin Savings Bank. “We have a full slate planned for families to enjoy healthy Maine outdoor activities at little or no cost.”
The Healthy Community Coalition is using the free event as a kick-off for its Community Transformation grant-funded initiative that aims to increase the number of no- or low-cost recreation programs available to area youth. HCC staff will be on hand to lead a couple of activities and do blood pressure checks from 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
