Dr. Sparks Joins Franklin Memorial Emergency Department

Franklin Memorial Hospital President Rebecca Ryder is pleased to announce that Dr. Rodney Sparks, has joined the emergency department of Franklin Memorial Hospital. Other providers in the department include Dr. David Kearing, Dr. Douglas Wood, Dr. Steve Zanella and physician assistants Randy Gauvin, Jim Hines, and James Pickrell.
Before joining Franklin Memorial, Dr. Sparks served as flight surgeon in the Army, then worked part-time in several Maine hospitals including Redington-Fairview General Hospital and Northern Maine Medical Center among others.
Dr. Sparks is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board-certified in advanced trauma life support, pediatric advanced life support, and cardiac life support.
Dr. Sparks completed his residency in 2001 in internal medicine at William Beaumont Army Medical Center and received his medical degree in 1998 at F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Sparks resides in New Sharon with wife Shay and their five children.
The emergency department at Franklin Memorial has 10 emergency rooms, including one designated trauma room, as well as a helipad for Lifeflight of Maine, the State’s medical helicopter service. The emergency department treats patients according to the urgency of their condition, so those with more serious conditions are treated first.
