Breast Cancer Awareness Special Events
Outreach efforts taking place in Kingfield and Rangeley
October 17, 2012
In coordination with breast cancer awareness month, the Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) of Greater Franklin County is hosting breast cancer awareness events in Kingfield and Rangeley in October. Breast health education, information about services available at the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center, and hand massages will be provided. Flu shots will also be available for a $20 donation.
The schedule is as follows:
- Kingfield, Tranten’s Market, Thursday 10/18, noon to 4 p.m.
- Rangeley, Backwoods, Thursday 10/25, noon to 4 p.m.
Funding from the Avon Foundation Breast Health Outreach Program and the Maine Cancer Foundation make these events possible. Free gifts will be given to all women who stop by.
The HCC stresses that signs and symptoms of breast cancer should always be checked by a health care provider including: a lump or mass in the breast or under ones arm; skin irritation or dimpling; nipple pain or the nipple turning inward; redness or scaly appearance of the nipple or breast skin; nipple discharge that is not breast milk; and swelling or a change in the size or shape of ones breast.
Digital mammography is available at the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center in two locations: Farmington and Livermore Falls. Mammograms provide early detection of breast cancer, which can be lifesaving and financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
