Health Talk to Discuss Hip and Knee Arthritis Treatment Options

May 15, 2008

Carmen Crofoot

Carmen Crofoot

A presentation featuring Dr. Carmen Crofoot, an orthopedic surgeon at Franklin Orthopedics in Farmington, will discuss treatment options for those living with the pain of knee and/or hip arthritis.

On Thursday, June 5, Dr. Crofoot along with a physical therapist from Franklin Memorial Hospital, will discuss the wide range of treatment options available for knee and hip arthritis. The discussion will take place from 5-7 p.m. in the hospital's Chisholm Room and will include light refreshments. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The presentation will address arthritis' causes and symptoms, the latest non-surgical treatments including physical therapy, medications, and injections, as well as scope versus surgical joint replacement. There will be ample time for questions and answers.

"While you cannot reverse the effects of osteoarthritis, early nonsurgical treatment may help you avoid a lot of pain and disability and slow progression of the disease," said Dr. Crofoot. "When joint pain cannot be helped by usual conservative measures or if a person cannot perform daily activities joint replacement may become necessary."

Dr. Crofoot joined the medical staff of Franklin Orthopedics and Franklin Memorial Hospital in 2007. Besides general orthopedics, her professional interests include total joint replacement.
