Hospital to Host Summer Health Careers Exploration Camp

Franklin Community Health Network will once again host a Summer Scrub Club Camp taking place August 4 to August 8 at Franklin Memorial Hospital's Ben Franklin Center. The camp is designed to introduce youth to a wide variety of careers available in healthcare and is open to all students who will be entering grades 8, 9, or 10.
According to organizers, the camp will be a week filled with education about careers, including non-traditional and unexpected jobs within Franklin Community Health Network. A sampling of careers explored will include: physical therapy and sports medicine, nursing, hospital administration, accounting, marketing, pharmacy, radiology, computer science, horticulture, and emergency medical services.
Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in unique hands-on activities and demonstrations such as casting, suturing, lab analysis, and emergency response to a mock accident. All campers will receive certification in Heartsaver First Aid.
To receive an application, contact the Education Office at 779-2381. There is a $50 registration fee, but scholarships are available for those needing financial assistance.

This program is cosponsored and partially funded by Gear Up: Right Choices for Youth, a partnership aimed at encouraging middle school students to set their educational goals beyond high school and prepare for post-secondary education. Funding is also provided by the Franklin Memorial Hospital Area Health Education Center (AHEC), a member of the Maine AHEC Network, which is supported by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
