This year’s Sugarloaf Charity Summit kicks off with the Climb for a Cure on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. For a suggested donation of just $5, participants hike about one mile up Sugarloaf Mountain to Bullwinkle’s restaurant before descending back down. All proceeds from Charity Summit events benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation and the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center.

The Franklin Memorial Hospital (FMH) Auxiliary is once again having a Remembrance Tree with tree decorations that can be purchased “in memory of” or “in honor of” one or more individuals for a nominal fee. This tree in the hospital lobby shows the names of the dedications, as well as the donors who made the gift. Proceeds benefit the FMH Auxiliary.

The third annual Meal for a Meal took place in the Franklin Memorial Hospital cafeteria on Nov. 30. The cafeteria provided a full meal for diners for a donation to go toward the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce’s Gerry Wiles Holiday Food Basket Program, which distributes holiday food baskets to residents from Rangeley, Eustis, Carthage, Livermore, and all points in between who meet federal eligibility guidelines for food insecurity. Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) is offering free assistance for individuals in need of health insurance sign up or reenrollment with marketplace health insurance. Open enrollment for 2017 is now underway and runs through January 31. Healthy Community Coalition, through a grant from the Maine Health Access Foundation, has staff trained as certified navigators to assist individuals step by step through the enrollment and reenrollment process.
