Healthy Community Coalition
2007 Flu Shot Schedule
Flu shots will soon be available from the Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) at a town near you. Starting Monday, November 26th and continuing through Friday, December 7th the HCC staff will be at a public place and be available to administer the influenza vaccine (flu shot). The mobile health unit is scheduled to go out to all sites but in the event of poor driving conditions or mechanical issues, flu shots will be given inside the listed facility. Before coming to HCC’s flu shot clinics, it is recommended that you contact your primary care provider (your “regular” doctor), to see about getting the flu shot. Most insurance companies cover the flu shot. Also ask about the need for the Pneumonia vaccination which would be provided at your
doctor’s office (and not offered by HCC).
In addition, Alex Freeman, FMH Patient Advocate and Supervisor of Self-Pay, or Tammy Rose, FMH Patient Advocate and Manager of Patient Registration and Switchboard, will be available to answer questions about Franklin Memorial Hospital bills. Anyone wanting this confidential service is asked to bring their bill with them.
Influenza (“the flu”) is a highly infectious disease of the lungs and can lead to pneumonia. Typical symptoms include fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle aches, and extreme fatigue. The best time to be vaccinated against influenza is October, November, and December. However, vaccination after December can still be beneficial. Immunity builds over the initial 2 weeks after receiving the flu shot and slowly decreases after that.
Due to the cost of the vaccine, there is a suggested donation of $20. However, the flu shot can be provided for free, if needed, or by donating what you can afford. Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid cannot be accepted. The Healthy Community Coalition does buy all vaccine used for the mobile health unit and appreciates all donations to help cover costs.
Flu shots will be provided to those individuals 18 years old and older. Those who are under 18 are recommended to see their primary care medical provider.
