Attention all runners & walkers.
Three events on three consecutive Fridays
July 17, 2007
Healthy Community Coalition is encouraging residents of Greater Franklin County to enter the three running/walking events held on 3 consecutive Friday's. "You don't have to be Dash from the Incredibles to have fun in a race-just willing to get off your couch and take a fun walk with friends and neighbors," said Sandy Richard, RN, HCC's program manager. "It's fine to walk your way through a race-you win just by trying." Richard pointed out that additional prizes are available for individuals who participate in all 3 races. The races are:
#1) July 27th, The 27th Annual Strawberry Festival 5K and Kids 1 Mile, Downtown
Farmington, ME, 5:30 and 6:15 pm. Contact Kelley Cullenberg 778-4971 or arvid.cullenberg@maine.edu (Registration begins at 4:30 in front of Shiretown Insurance, Upper Broadway, Farmington)
#2) August 3rd, Wilton Blueberry Festival 10K and Kids 1 Mile, Wilton, ME, 6:00 and 6:30
pm. Contact Steve Russell at 778-3440 or steverus@hughes.net (Registration begins at 5:00 at Wiles Funeral Home parking lot, High Street, Wilton)
#3) August 10th, Cougar Soccer Classic 5K and Kids 1 Mile on the Whistlestop Trail,
Farmington, ME, 6:00 and 6:30 pm. Contact Steve Russell at 778-3440 or steverus@hughes.net (Registration begins at 5:00 at the Whistlestop Trail Parking Lot, West Farmington, near Maxwell’s Market and the W. Farmington Post Office)
Each race includes a kids 1 mile fun run that takes place prior to the main event. Walkers are also encouraged to participate. Walking is a great low impact exercise that almost anyone can do. All it takes is a pair of comfortable shoes. People of all ages & ability levels are encouraged to take part in one, two, or all 3 events. A limited number of T-Shirts are available in each race and prizes are awarded to top finishers in several age categories. There will be special prizes and recognition for being in all 3 races.
Local race organizers Steve Russell and Kelley Cullenberg have been working with the event organizers for the Strawberry Festival (formerly Moonlight Madness), and Wilton Blueberry Festival for years helping to make these races happen year after year. This year the third race is a fundraiser called the Cougar Soccer Classic, which aims to not only complete a three part races series but is a catalyst for raising money for the High School soccer programs in SAD 9.
