20th Annual Healthcare Golf Classic A Huge Success

More than $35,000 was raised at the annual Healthcare Golf Classic held July 15 and 16 at the Sugarloaf Golf Club. This year’s festivities included a 2-day event with 38 holes of tournament play, a Sunday night reception with Comedian Gary Crocker, a Monday luncheon and awards ceremony, silent auction, and raffle. The hilight of this year’s Tournament was the participation of Red Sox great Rico Petrocelli, who played a hole with each of the teams. TD Banknorth was the Tournament sponsor and the host for Mr. Petrocelli.

Proceeds from the tournament, coordinated by Franklin Community Health Network, benefit the Healthy Community Coalition and Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center. Both provide health services to people in need throughout the Franklin Memorial Hospital service area.

2007 marks the 20th year of the Healthcare Golf Classic. Steve Pierce, tournament chair and member of the FCHN Foundation Advisory Board, attributed this year’s success to the generous support of the major tournament sponsors and the many regional businesses and individuals who donated items for the silent auction and raffle.

“We are fortunate to have a large number of teams that we can count on to participate each year,” said Pierce. “This year was a special milestone for us. It was the 20th annual Tournament for the Healthcare Golf Classic and will benefit the new Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center. This will be housed in the new Medical Arts Building being built on the Franklin Memorial Hospital campus and has generated a great deal of excitement in the community.”

Forty two teams from throughout New England took part in the Sunday and Monday Tournaments. All had a chance to meet and play with Red Sox great Rico Petrocelli and to win a new 2007 Mercury Milan automobile from Farmington Ford, as well as other prizes in the hole-in-one contest.
