Education Department
The Education Department at Franklin Memorial Hospital is located in the Ben Franklin Center. We provide many services for employees, such as continuing education. This includes CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP and other programs. Collaboration with physicians to provide Cardiology Grand Rounds, Good Morning CMEs, Tumor Board, and the Adult Medicine Series on a regular basis keeps our physicians and other healthcare professionals current in the profession. Computer-based learning within a variety of healthcare topics is also available for employees, and we maintain current transcripts of all our employee programs.
The Education Department also provides many community services, such as CPR and First Aid courses for the general public and sponsorship of major healthcare-related conferences at the Ben Franklin Center. In addition, the Education Department collaborates with Maine colleges to offer on-site clinical experiences and courses for health care professions at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Some current collaborations include:
- Central Maine Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions runs a satellite student RN program via teleconferencing for classes and onsite clinical rotations with a CMMC instructor. In addition, several CMMC students are taking a required Literature course towards their college degree here in the evening. CMMC also works with the radiology department at Franklin Memorial in placing students for clinical experiences at our hospital.
- Central Maine Community College sends radiology students to Franklin Memorial Hospital’s radiology department for clinical rotations.
- Several Adult Education courses are available on site. Certified Nursing Assistant programs are held at the Ben Franklin Center in the evenings. Adult Education also collaborates with the Department of Education in offering Medical Terminology and other health care related courses including BLS CPR classes.
- Foster Technical Center (through MSAD 9) regularly uses our clinical facility for their CNA program.
- Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Medical Students (DO, MD) are also provided opportunities to work with our quality medical practices and clinical areas as part of their educational experiences. These students come from a variety of schools, such as The University of New England, Northeastern University, The University of Vermont, Maine Medical Center, and The University of Rhode Island.
