PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) is Franklin Memorial Hospital’s medical imaging digital archiving system. PACS has made drastic improvements in the communication of medical imaging. Digital images can be retrieved electronically in seconds by any provider in our network and even a few outside of it. For any other provider, we can still offer the benefits of digital imaging by supplying a CD, instead of a bulky film jacket to store.
In addition, digital images can be enhanced in ways that are impossible with film. This improves accuracy of image reading across all of the medical imaging modalities. Currently, mammography is the only form of imaging that is not digital at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Mammography will also join the digital age with the opening of the new Medical Arts building in the summer of 2008.
If you would like a CD of your images, you can request one at any time by calling 207-779-2370. If you are being treated within Maine Health, you will not even need a CD to transfer your images. They can be transferred instantly through PACS.
