Western Maine Physicians-Hospital Organization
Western Maine Physicians-Hospital Organization is a not-for-profit partnership made up of Franklin Memorial Hospital and Western Maine Physicians Organization, a group of area physicians. The hospital and physicians have joined together to create a Physicians-Hospital Organization (PHO), whose goal is to ensure a compassionate, cost-conscious, and consistent system of delivering managed care to the residents of west central Maine.
The partnership was created to allow the local health-care delivery system to make decisions on how care would be delivered in our rural area.
Through the PHO, health insurers can sign one contract instead of contracting with each individual provider. This is convenient for the health insurers and the area providers.
The Western Maine PHO has recently joined other PHO's in Lewiston-Auburn, Rumford, Bridgton and Brunswick to further simplify contracting between our PHO and health insurers. As part of this affiliation, we are embarking on a series of initiatives with the PHO's, hospitals, and physicians in those communities with the help and cooperation of a number of health insurers to measurably increase the quality of healthcare which we deliver.
