Treatment Approach
Since each person's reasons for alcohol or drug dependence are different, each treatment plan is different. Our clinicians work with the patient and family to develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses the unique nature of each person, but also deals with the common problems that face those with substance abuse/dependence. Our goal is to help the patient recognize and cope with destructive behaviors and attitudes. Through group therapy, individual counseling, and a variety of other supportive therapy techniques, patients can learn positive behavioral patterns that enhance their self-image and feelings of self-worth.
Family Program
By its very nature, substance abuse is a family disease. Those close to the substance abuser can inadvertently develop detrimental behavioral patterns, often resulting in poor communication, role conflicts, loss of self-worth, and a preoccupation with drug-taking behavior. These problems are accompanied by strong feelings of anger, hurt, frustration, and loneliness.
We know that recovery is most successful when the entire family becomes involved in the treatment process. Our family treatment consists of educational sessions and individual family therapy. Our goal is to increase family understanding of the disease concept and how it affects each family member, to improve communication, to develop health-coping methods, and to help families deal with issues that impact them.
Aftercare
Initial treatment is just the beginning of recovery. Our program emphasizes the importance of continued treatment and the importance of attending self-help groups for both the patient and family. We also make recommendations and referrals for further outpatient therapy and community services.
