Crossroads Regional School
Crossroads Regional School is an alternative day treatment program for children, ages 13 - 18, who have serious emotional and behavioral problems. The school is the result of a collaborative effort by the Jay and Livermore Falls school districts in conjunction with Evergreen Behavioral Services. Our intensive, specialized program provides alternatives for children who have struggled unsuccessfully to maintain a regular education placement, and who might otherwise be referred to more restrictive, institutionalized settings. Our qualified providers include a psychiatrist, clinical social worker, mental health behavior technician, special services administrators, and a special education teacher, and we are able to bill Medicare or your private insurance for treatment. Sending schools will arrange for transportation.
Admission Criteria
To be considered for the program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Axis I diagnosis (student must have exhibited a serious, diagnosable emotional disturbance for at least one year)
- Functional impairment or separation from family
- Parents/guardian must be willing to participate in treatment
If you know of a student who fits this description and might benefit from enrollment in our school, please contact us.
Mission and Philosophy
Crossroads’ mission is to provide quality behavioral services to individuals and families that address the unique nature of each person, promote positive emotional and physical health and enhance lives. Our approach is grounded in three core beliefs:
The Milieu Model - We believe that optimal learning occurs through experiences that have meaningful, personal relevance, and we try to use the classroom milieu in order to capture “teachable moments.”
Family Systems - Family systems theory suggests that individual family members can only be understood and change within the context of the family system.
Developmental Theories - Students are not “little adults.” They must be developmentally ready in order to master certain skills.
Program and Services
The Crossroads student can expect to receive the following services, although the personalized treatment plan for each child will be individually tailored to address his or her specific needs.
Education - We use a self-paced curriculum, alternative methods for earning credit, and a very small staff to student ratio.
Psychotherapy - Individual, group, family and milieu therapies are all used to achieve a sustained emotional and behavioral change.
Crisis Intervention - Qualified staff are always available for crisis intervention, and an individually tailored crisis plain is formulated for each student upon admission.
Experiential Learning - Students become active in the community through experience-based opportunities such as pre-vocational training, community service projects, volunteering, mentoring partnerships, and personally-designed internships.
Referral and Advocacy - Based on individual evaluation, we will help families access needed services, such as medication management, case management, physical or speech therapy, housing, or transportation.
Family Involvement - Because we want to help the entire family system, we encourage parent participation in a variety of activities.
Skills Training - In order to make sure that our students have the tools they need for success, we emphasize:
- Emotional and behavioral self-regulation
- Daily living skills
- Community skills for self-advocacy
- Interpersonal/social skills
